Cecile Louise Stephanie Chaminade 1857-1944

Cecile Chaminade was born in Paris, France on August 8, 1857. She studied music with many famous composers and tutors. She began composing herself at eight years and gave her first piano concert at 18. Her compositions were popular in France and in 1892 she was appointed Officer of Public Instruction. She played the piano better than most women of her time and went farthur than most following her love of music. Her Concertstueck performed in Philadelphia in 1908 made her well known to the American public. She was famous for her many pieces in both Europe and America. She died on April 13, 1944.
