At SMPS, our Learning Specialists play a crucial role in ensuring that every student has the opportunity to thrive in a nurturing environment. We are committed to supporting all learners, particularly those who may benefit from personalized accommodations and modifications to be successful in their academic journey.

PARTNERSHIP WITH FAMILIES

We believe that a student’s success is built on strong partnerships between the school, families, and teachers. Our Learning Specialists regularly communicate with parents/guardians, teachers, and administrators to develop and implement effective strategies for student success. These may include:

• Classroom accommodations and modifications

• Small group interventions for targeted instruction

• Push-in support, where specialists work directly in the classroom alongside the teacher

By working together, we create a team of support around each child, ensuring that both academic and personal growth is fostered in every learning environment.

PERSONALIZED LEARNING PLANS

For students who need additional support, our Learning Specialists develop comprehensive Learning Plans tailored to each child’s individual strengths and challenges. These plans outline the accommodations and modifications necessary for the student to fully access the curriculum and achieve their potential. Each plan is regularly reviewed and updated to reflect progress and changing needs, ensuring that the support remains effective and relevant.

COLLABORATION

In some cases, a student may require formal evaluations or specialized plans such as an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) or an Individualized Service Plan (ISP). Our Learning Specialists serve as the school’s liaison with the Olympia School District, coordinating evaluations and services that may be needed. This collaborative effort ensures that students who qualify for additional district support receive the resources they need while remaining fully integrated into our Catholic school community.
